By Johnny Brown, Youth Director
It’s hard to believe that it was a year ago that Shea, Greyson and I joined this church family as partners in ministry. I’m so thankful that you stepped out in faith and followed a vision that sets forth a plan to minister and care for the youth that God has blessed you with. And I’m honored that you have allowed me to be a part of this ministry.
We have enjoyed wonderful support from the leadership, the families, parents, and the kids here at First Presbyterian. From the very beginning I was blown away by how much you all love and are willing to give and do for these kids! That makes what we do a little easier and a lot more fun!
In this first year, we have had the chance to really get to know the kids. The different personalities, the different gifts and the different backgrounds. And even though they are all unique in their own way, they come together for one really great group!
I’ve had several favorite moments over the past year – The shopping trip as we helped with the Angel Tree Project. It was neat to see how much the kids cared as they sought to pick out just the right gifts for the families. I also loved seeing many of the youth involved with the Christmas Services. Our Sunday afternoon meetings were always fun, and Summer Camp at Montgomery Center was a blast! And as much as I have missed our in-person gatherings over the past months, our Wednesday zoom meetings have provided some hilarious moments! I’ve been both impressed and proud of the participation we have each week.
Looking ahead, I’m probably most excited about getting our group back together, face to face. I hope that this will happen very soon and it will most likely be an outdoor meeting keeping everyone’s safety in mind. We also are starting a new curriculum that will have us walking through the Bible together. I believe that one of the most important things that I can do is to help these teens and pre-teens form a true connection with God and His Word, and help them to see how He would have us engage the world around us.
Hopefully, there will be fun and a lot of laughter as we learn together. After all… God created laughter, and TRUE JOY comes from Him.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
